What's it like to drive?
If you want to burn the boys off at the lights and fly down the road, then this is not the car for you. What it is, however, is a comfortable and quiet ride with four-wheel drive to help you out of sticky situations. Like mud. The steering is pretty vague and there is a noticeable lean on corners. The 2.7 V6 provides a reasonable punch, but the turbodiesel is better.
What's it like inside?
Like the cargo deck of a spaceship, you could probably fit enough stuff in there for several years intergalactic voyage. It accommodates five adults comfortably and the rear seats fold flat, creating an even bigger loading space for solo missions. Even dinky pilots will find a decent driving position due to ultra-adjustable seats and even basic models are generously equipped.
What's it like inside?
This beast feels sturdy and well built so it should be pretty reliable, although it has to be said that its Japanese rivals do have higher standards. In the latest JD Power customer satisfaction survey, however, owners reported problems with the transmission and heating and ventilation systems. Every model is decently equipped with safety features including anti-lock brakes, traction control and a trio of three-point seatbelts in the rear.
Will it break the bank?
Running costs are pretty reasonable, apart from the thirsty V6 which is also in a high company car tax band, and it is modestly priced for a 4x4. Don't expect it to hold its value, though, so try and negotiate a discount when you buy it new. Generous kit means you won't have to pay extra for air-con, electic windows, alloy wheels or a CD player.
