Great

* Dump stuff through the back window instead of opening the boot
* A useful table and cup holder between front seats for those organic picnics.. Ok, we admit it, for
* Comfortable, with great visibility from a lofty driving position

Gripes

* The diesel engine could hush up a bit
* Hasn’t always performed well in car-thief break-in tests

Crank up the stereo (and you may well have to), as there’s a fair bit of rumble from the road as you gad along. The diesel engine is a bit of noisy one, compared to other cars in this class
ReliabilityReliability rating - 4 out of 5 stars
The HR-V seems well constructed and though you will get road noise in the cabin, there shouldn’t be squeaks and rattles from the interior to add to the annoyance.
InsideInside rating - 3 out of 5 stars
Plastic everywhere, which is great if you love that ‘new car’ smell, but rubbish if it all makes you hanker for a nice man-made fabric. Great driving position though!
SpaceSpace rating - 4 out of 5 stars
Plenty big enough for four adults, and if you do fold those seats down in the back you could get a considerable amount in. Rear legroom is just fine and there’s plenty of space to stretch out upfront.
SafetySafety rating - 3 out of 5 stars
Scores well on pedestrian safety and has driver and passenger airbags and anti-lock brakes. We’d like to see bit more done to thwart break-ins.
Standards and extrasStandards and extras rating - 4 out of 5 stars
That plastic inside the cabin means the CR-V is never going to feel posher than posh, but there is a good level of equipment throughout the range.
