Service... with a smile

Service... with a smile
WOMEN drivers are the focus of new female-friendly “while-you-wait” service centres set to sweep the UK.

IN ‘N’ OUT has just opened the first of its drive-through service and MOT stations in a bid to revolutionise Britain’s car servicing industry.

And they’re courting female customers, with child-friendly waiting lounges, gourmet refreshments and entertainments their cornerstone.

A while-you-wait interim service takes no longer than 15 minutes and costs just £99. There’s also a 30-minute express MOT priced at £49, along with a seven-minute basic fluid top-up and tyre pressure check.

Swift service means no longer losing an entire day while your car’s at the garage: there’s just enough time to read a magazine, enjoy a cappuccino or prep for your next appointment

The concept is a radical departure from traditional servicing. There’s no need to book in advance and you don’t have to go through the rigmarole of organising a courtesy car or, worse, using public transport.

You can even pull up a pew and watch your beloved being overhauled. Four mechanics, using state-of-the-art equipment, work on it simultaneously in split-level servicing bays: two above ground, two below. And when it’s all over, you can keep an eye on your car’s service history online.

IN ‘N’ OUT chairman, Lee Stonehouse, told evecars.com: “Research shows that, on average, women pay 25% more than men for servicing.

“They’ll also drive their car for four months knowing there’s a problem because they’re too scared to go to the garage.

“But the main difference between men and women is that women will admit when they don’t know about cars.”

The first IN ‘N’ OUT centre has just opened in Northampton. Lucy Redding, a 32-year-old chartered accountant who raced in the 2006 Formula Woman and drives a Porsche Boxster S, was there.

“It’s really hard for women when they go into a dealership if they don’t know about cars, as they’re often made to feel vulnerable or inadequate,” she told evecars.com.

“But with this service, things are explained to them clearly: they know exactly what’s going on and they know they’re not being cheated.”

The company hopes to launch a further 300 centres across the UK over the next five years.
