evecars.com Car of the Year Results - Family Hold-all

20 August 2007

evecars.com Car of the Year Results - Family Hold-all
Winner: NISSAN QASHQAI

Price: £13,499-£20,849
Inside: Classy cabin and great view from high-set seat
Drive: Comfortable and straightforward to drive
Space: Good space for passengers, and their luggage

Pick of the range: 1.6 Visia

The Qashqai looks and feels like a 4x4 and the high seating position gives driver and passengers a great view out. It's not just a sexy looker though, on the road it was smooth, easy to drive and quiet. It scored good marks for value with a cabin that looks smart for the money, and it has an impressive amount of safety kit, too.

Runners up: Volkswagen Golf, Honda Civic

The Volkswagen Golf's styling is conservative by comparison, but still looks smart. There's little to fault inside the car, with enough space for a family of five, a simple dash layout, and a solid feel to the controls. Traditionally the Volkswagen badge has guaranteed good resale values, making it a sensible, if not original, option.

Honda's modern-looking Civic was described as 'spaceship overkill' by one judge, and inside the judges felt that both the view of the dashboard, and rear visibility were poor. Rear seat passengers felt on the cramped side of cosy. There were no complaints about the eager and powerful engine, though.
