evecars.com Car of the Year Results - Executive chic

20 August 2007

evecars.com Car of the Year Results - Executive chic
Winner: BMW 3 SERIES

Price: £21,915-£36,125
Inside: Comfortable and high quality, but won't be winning any beauty contests
Drive: Great to drive and blissfully quiet inside, too
Space: Decent space for all on board and a sensible boot

Pick of the range: 320d ES

It was the BMW's on-road prowess that sealed its top spot here. We found it easy to drive, with smooth-changing gears, direct steering and great brakes. It was comfortable too with nicely supportive seats.

However, judges weren't quite as impressed with things inside the cabin. They thought the dash was plain, and found the i-Drive controller, which operates the sat-nav, air-con and radio controls with one big dial, fiddly to use

Runners up: Audi A4, Mercedes C-Class

The Audi A4 felt more compact on the road, and was easy to park, but couldn't match the BMW for refinement. Although soon to be replaced, the Audi still feels top quality, and is extremely comfortable.

So too is Mercedes' C-Class, and the ride got a firm thumbs up. The interior wasn’t such a hit with judges who found the centre console obstructive, the seats less comfortable and the interior less spacious than in the others here.
